FurledSails   Weekly sailing podcast focusing on cruising and recreational sailing.

At Home In The Turks And Caicos
"Understated and remote, a cluster of Caribbean islands off the southern end of the Bahamas chain offers exploratory cruising in its purest form."

Under Sail on the Great Southern Ocean
"On a voyage from Australia to Antarctica, it becomes clear that the stormy waters at the bottom of the globe -- long a source of history and legend -- remain a magnet for adventure. "

Rock And Roll On The Grand Tour
"In the final article of our trilogy on taking a European cruising sabbatical, we consider some of the practical aspects of preparing your boat and yourself for the trip. Our associate editor sailed trans-Atlantic last November in the Atlantic Rally For Cruisers (ARC). Here’s what he learned... "

Beyond The Garden Of Good And Evil
"Cruising Georgia’s water world, with its labyrinthine tidal creeks, lonely barrier islands and history-laden coast, is a voyage of rediscovery. On this coast, Guale Indians built middens, Spanish friars preached and French traders trafficked in furs. Along these riverbanks, British Redcoats and rag-tag revolutionaries battled for a nation; nearly 100 years later, the battle to keep that nation raged across its shores."

Sailing Friends of the Four-Legged Kind
"Many animal lovers don’t cruise with pets because they don’t believe animals could be comfortable aboard. In many cases, though, their owners simply need to know how to look after them. For the most part, that means taking the same steps to protect your pet—and to protect your boat from your pet—as you would at home. A few extra precautions, though, are in order. "

Dinghies That Come in a Pouch
"Compact and portable, today’s roll-up inflatables and folding RIBs are sensible dinghyoptions when weight and storage space are considerations"

Wired for the World
"The Hertz Factor A primary consideration when dealing with onboard AC power systems and equipment is the operating frequency. Every AC-powered device is clearly labeled with its rated operating voltage and frequency. In the United States, alternating current is delivered at 60 hertz, meaning that it alternates 60 times per second. But only about 20 percent of the power available in the world is delivered at 60 hertz; in the other 80 percent of the world, power is delivered at 50 hertz. "

The Fuel-Cell Solution: Promise or Prophecy?
"HaveBlue’s ambitious approach makes obsolete the need for new infrastructure, since the hydrogen fuel is produced on board the boat and stored, possibly in the form of metal hydride, in storage tanks. But if, or how soon, the system will become a practical option for cruising sailors will depend on a number of factors, not the least of which is economics. "
