"Mechanical refrigeration, taken for granted today, could be likened to a thermal alchemy of sorts. Even in the modern era, it is difficult not to be awed by this inventionís incredible usefulness and value. Combine the right gases, a compressor, and a few other simple mechanical components, add electricity, and the result is ice cream while cruising amongst remote tropical atolls. Letís look at some of the main components of a refrigeration system as a way of examining the state of marine refrigeration today."
